The Michigan Traffic Lab (MTL) at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) and the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute (UMTRI) is seeking an outstanding PostDoctoral Research Fellow for a one-year, renewable appointment. This opportunity can provide you the experience of working on exciting connected and automated vehicle (CAV) related projects, while working with a group of experts in this domain, and help you build your future career. The Michigan Traffic Lab, led by Prof. Henry Liu, focuses on developing new methodologies and applications in smart transportation infrastructure and CAV technologies, particularly on CAV based traffic modeling and control, cybersecurity of the transportation system, and CAV testing and evaluation. The post-doctoral researcher will conduct CAV related research in close collaboration with faculty and students within MTL and other researchers at CEE, UMTRI and Mcity. Duties will include conducting original and collaborative research, publishing in peer-reviewed scientific journals, participating in seminars and work groups, and collaborating on research proposals and grant applications. The successful candidate will: 1) author and co-author peer-reviewed publications and present at professional meetings; 2) collaborate in ongoing projects and develop new research proposals; and, 3) help supervise and train undergraduate and graduate students. Desirable qualification includes excellent quantitative and analytical skills, excellent written and oral communication abilities, and a collaborative attitude.

Required Qualifications

The successful applicant should have a doctoral degree in transportation engineering, industrial engineering, computer science, or a related field. The candidate should have a demonstrated record of individual initiative and originality in research and strong analytic skills, including optimization, statistics, and programming. Candidates with practical knowledge in one or more of the following areas are preferred: CAV data standards, CAV data analysis and visualization, and traffic signal systems. Candidates are required to have strong core fundamentals that allow them to work across disciplinary boundaries.
